Hair and scalp disorders are extremely common and have both a medical and psychological impact on patients. These conditions can be a result of medical and/or patient habits and range from severe hair breakage and hair loss to seborrheic dermatitis. They can lead to symptoms which affect the patients’ quality of life; either through compromised hair appearance or discomfort due to irritation and severe itching. Treatment can be difficult due to the challenges of delivering appropriate materials to the hair and scalp in a cosmetically acceptable form that will encourage patient compliance. In many cases, product pharmacology can be as important as the intrinsic medical activity, in achieving the desired therapeutic result. This course emphasizes the diagnosis and practical treatment of these common, but distressing, conditions.
