Scientists have known for some time that the microorganism Malassezia globosa (M. globosa) is responsible for dandruff and other skin conditions. But they were surprised to find that M.globosa, which is naturally occurring on the human scalp, could also cause permanent damage to the hair.  

Many women have experienced hair fragility and hair breakage, which can result in the perception of thinning hair. The causes, both natural and environmental, are the subject of many scientific hair studies.

More than thirty years ago, scientists discovered that a compound called minoxidil could stimulate hair growth. First used as a drug to treat high blood pressure, the compound relaxes the smooth muscles of the vascular system by way of potassium-ATP channels.

Women experience a variety of hormonal changes throughout the stages of menopause. These changes manifest themselves in a number of ways, including noticeable differences in hair health and quality. As many women age, they notice that their hair begins to thin.  In fact, in the United States roughly 40 percent of women aged 45-59 have thinning hair.
