Malassezia globosa/restricta

Although Malassezia furfur was originally believed to be the Malassezia species responsible for producing dandruff/seborrheic dermatitis, genome-based methodology identified Malassezia globosa and Malassezia restricta as the predominant species present on the scalp of dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis sufferers. Both Malassezia globosa and Malassezia restricta are lipid-dependent species with fastidious culture requirements.
