Paul Matts, PhD

P&G Beauty scientists are using novel technologies to improve each new generation of skin care therapies and to deliver the highest quality skin care products through innovative scientific research.

As a newly-promoted Research Fellow for P&G Beauty, Paul Matts, PhD, is one of the leading scientists in the field of skin care research.  Dr. Matts has pioneered new theories and practices within the field of biochemistry and the health and beauty industry, including in vivo and in vitro bioengineering measures of skin, UVR research and skin optics and, in these areas, has published over 20 original peer-reviewed journal papers and over 70 conference papers.

In addition to his research accomplishments, Dr. Matts has received prestigious honors for his dedication to skin science, including two awards from the Society of Cosmetic Chemists: the award for Best Paper at the 2005 annual scientific meeting and the Hans A. Schaefer Award, which recognizes the most innovative paper presented at that meeting. He has also been awarded a fellowship with the Royal Society of the Arts, in London, for an outstanding record of achievement in both intellectual / creative ability and professional conduct. He is a long-standing degree-course lecturer at the London College of Fashion and, in 2007, was also appointed Visiting Professor to the School of Pharmacy, University of London. He currently serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Cosmetic Science, peer-reviews for many others, and is frequently invited to speak at industry conferences and meetings, in the UK and around the world.
