Chapter 4 - Cosmetic Hair Problems
About this chapter...
In this chapter we look at a few common problematic hair conditions that are met with in the hair salon. We explore the basic changes that can happen and the reasons for them, and we look at their appearance when viewed under the microscope.
Most of these changes are difficult if not impossible to reverse, although a skilled hairdresser will know whether there are any useful repair measures that might be taken. All could have been prevented, however, if simple precautions had been taken.
Fortunately, cosmetic disasters are fairly rare, so this is a short chapter!
This is how we think healthy hair should look: long, luxuriant and shining. All too often, however, people find their own hair falls short of the ideal. And many of them lay the responsibility for all their hair problems on the last product they put on their hair.
But the hair's history goes back much further than that. A scientific understanding of hair can help us to read 'the record of the hair'. This may well help us to identify any cosmetic or even medical problems.
